The MAP Regions have been defined by the Malaria Atlas Project on the basis of underlying geographical factors that influence malaria prevalence. This follows our modelling approach for malaria risk which splits the world into tiles. The MAP regions broadly represent the continents but Saudi Arabia and Yemen are included in the Africa+ region, and Eastern Europe is included in the Asia+ region (also referred to as CSE Asia in MAP publications).

The WHO regions have been defined by the World Health Organisation.
